Introduction:
My IS Project is under Experimental category and involves lot of work. If I am not wrong, there should be more than 40 lab sessions each taking more than 2.5hrs.
OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT:
To
investigate the effectiveness of different types of paint
additives used in water-borne wood paint
for improving the
chemical resistance properties as compared
to the Control
Sample (water-borne wood paint without
paint additives) as
well as Solvent-borne wood paint.
RATIONALE OF THE PROJECT:
Determine if the paint
additives (products in the market claim to have hydrophobic characteristic) could help to
improve the chemical resistance properties of water-borne acrylic wood paint.
PAINT ADDITIVE NEEDED:

PAINT ADDITIVE NEEDED:
CONCLUSION OF THE PROJECT:
In conclusion, our test results
proven that our hypothesis is true.
Ø
Paint additive 1 (aqueous
fluorinated polyurethane dispersion) is most effective in
enhancing the chemical resistance properties
when added to water-borne acrylic wood paint as compared to the other 3
evaluated paint additives.
ØThe
optimum dosage of additive 1 used in water-borne acrylic wood paint is about
2-3% of the total paint weight.
